TYR is happy to announce it has signed Olympic triathlete Sarah Groff to the company’s athletic roster.
Groff is coming off a strong 2013 season, having won the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Pan American Cup and placing second at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. She has certainly carried her momentum into the 2014 season, beginning with a seventh place finish at the New Plymouth ITU World Cup. Last weekend, she snagged her second top-10 finish of the year, coming in fifth place at ITU Auckland.
Groff first made a name for herself in the ITU community in 2007, when she won the ITU Aquathlon World Championships. The American athlete went on to achieve much success over the following years and then took some time off to heal after a bike injury.
Groff came back with a vengeance in 2011, achieving 10 top-10 performances and finishing third overall in the ITU World Championships Series. (She recorded the top season by an American in the three-year history of the series). She even qualified to compete on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team in London, where she lead the U.S. with a fourth place finish, just 10 seconds shy of the podium.
In recognition of her many achievements, Groff was named the USA Triathlon Olympic/ITU Athlete of the Year in both 2011 and 2012. Currently, she is training hard and working toward her dream of competing in Rio 2016.
