Swimming’s biggest stars duked it out at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine this past week, all vying for a coveted spot on the U.S. Pan Pacific roster in Australia next week. Team TYR earned four tickets to the Gold Coast after delivering some seriously explosive performances in the pool.

Matt Grevers won the men’s 100m backstroke with a blazing fast time of 52.75 — the third-fastest time in the world this year — securing his spot at Pan Pacs. This accolade, in addition to his win in the men’s 50m butterfly, helped earn Grevers the individual High Point Award on the final night of Nationals.

Twenty-three year old Michael McBroom had several standout performances throughout the weekend. He captured first place in both the men’s 400m and 800m free, and he finished second in the men’s 1500m free. McBroom more than earned his ticket to Pan Pacs, where he is slated to swim the 400m and 1500m free.

In the men’s 100m free, Jimmy Feigen squared off against six other U.S. Olympians. Despite the stiff competition, Feigen pulled out a third place finish with a time of 48.98, procuring his spot at Pan Pacs in the 4X100 free relay.

Despite battling a shoulder injury for much of this season, Nick Thoman met much success, placing second in the men’s 50m back. He went on to swim the men’s 100m back, placing third with a 53.46 and locking down Team TYR’s fourth ticket to Pan Pacs.

“We are extremely proud of all our athletes who competed at U.S. Nationals,” said Matt DiLorenzo, chief executive officer of TYR Sport. “Team TYR did an incredible job, and we can’t wait to cheer them on as they tackle Pan Pacs next week.”

Based on his win in the 50m fly, Grevers is guaranteed a spot at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Russia, the last major international competition before Rio 2016. USA Swimming will announce the full roster for Worlds after Pan Pacs, with McBroom and Feigen well positioned to make the cut.
